Buses to and from Perth Airport (PER)

Perth Airport is found in Western Australia, approximately 12 to 17km from central Perth, depending on from which terminal a passenger is travelling.  The International Terminal is a little further away than the domestic terminals.  This Australian airport is known as PER, and is a busy establishment with around 12.6 million passengers per annum.  It is also used as a hub location by several prominent airline companies.  In terms of ground transport, there are several options, including the Perth Airport buses that are used by many passengers.  Buses are also important for the transportation of passengers between the terminal buildings of the airport.

At the present time, Perth Airport’s terminals are located on the western and eastern sides of the main runway.  On the eastern side passengers will find the single terminal that handles all international flights, and on the western side passengers will find the two terminal buildings that are used for domestic flights.  A new terminal building is also currently under construction that will provide more space for air travellers.  This terminal will be named Terminal 2, and will be dedicated to the flights of Tiger Airways, Skywest and Alliance Airlines.  Terminal 3, used by these airline companies at the moment, will then be solely used by Virgin Australia.  Terminal 4 is the airport’s terminal for all Qantas and Jetstar flights.  Since that the domestic and international terminals are approximately eleven kilometres apart (6.8 miles), airport buses are available for the transfer of passengers.  Further bus services are available from all terminals to the city of Perth and its surrounding areas.

On-site Perth Airport Buses

Every twenty minutes, a free shuttle service runs between the terminal buildings of the airport.  These buses are available twenty-four hours a day, and depart on the hour, twenty minutes past the hour and forty minutes past the hour.  The journey between terminals takes approximately eight minutes.  At the International Terminal passengers will find a bus stop in front of the arrivals area.  Passengers at the domestic terminals will go to the front of the Qantas Terminal 4 in order to find the appropriate bus stop.  The on-site terminal transfer buses are wheelchair accessible.

On-site airport buses are also available to the long-term car parks of the domestic and international terminals.  There are several bus shelters within the car parks, and buses are available approximately every ten minutes.  At the domestic terminals, the bright orange signs indicate the departure area of the car parking lot shuttles.  The buses are easy to locate at the International Terminal as well.

The Perth Airport Connect Shuttle

Passengers in need of a reliable bus/shuttle service to or from Perth Airport will appreciate the Connect shuttle buses.  They will even collect you from your place of accommodation in Perth City or Fremantle, or from the airport, dropping you off at your Perth City or Fremantle accommodation.  Transport services are provided in a brand new fleet of buses, all of which have air conditioning, and passengers can always expect their bus to arrive on time.

There are no reservations required for travel from Perth Airport on the Connect shuttle buses, and bus tickets can be purchased in cash from the bus driver.  However, the shuttle must be booked in advance when travelling from a place of accommodation in the city to the airport.  Passengers should allow approximately one hour of travel time between their hotel and the airport.  At the terminal forecourts, passengers can also purchase tickets at the Connect kiosk.  From the International Terminal a one-way adult ticket will cost $15 and a return ticket will cost $25.  From the domestic terminals, an adult one way ticket will cost $18 and a return ticket will cost $30.  Children under fifteen years of age will pay $8 from the domestic or international terminals for a one way trip.  Children under five may travel for free.  Ticket prices will vary according to the number of adults that are travelling.

Passengers who require special assistance, such as those travelling in a wheelchair, should notify the company at least a day in advance.  Keep in mind that guide-dogs may travel aboard the buses, but no other pets are allowed.  Further details are available from the following website:  http://www.perthairportconnect.com.au.  The company’s contact number is 1300 666 806.

Public Transport

The public buses of Perth Airport are operated by Transperth, and they are available at the domestic terminals only.  There are no public bus services to and from the international terminal.  However, passengers could arrive at the domestic terminals and then take the free shuttle bus operated by the airport to the international side.  Bus Number 37 serves the airport, and is found at the bus stop that is located in the bus lane closest to the Qantas Domestic Terminal (T4).  The bus travels between the airport and Kings Park, with stops at the Esplanade Bus Port, the Victoria Transfer Station and the Belmont Forum Shopping Centre.  The journey of the bus takes approximately fifty-five minutes to an hour to complete.

The company Transperth is part of the State Government’s Public Transport Authority (PTA), and is the provider of all public transport services in the Perth metropolitan region.  They are therefore the company in charge of Perth’s buses, trains and ferries.  Approximately eighty ferry services are available on weekdays during September through April, and a fleet of over 1,100 buses provide transport to a wide variety of location.  The Transperth bus network is currently run by three bus operators, which are Swan Transit, Southern Coast Transit and Path Transit.
